Independent weekend guide · South Limburg

Plan the
race weekend.

A fan-friendly guide for both riders and spectators—without assuming which track is yours.

Planning note: Unaffiliated guidance. Dates, access, schedules, closures, ticketing and accommodation availability change; confirm with official sources.
01 / Base camp

Valkenburg,
with options.

Valkenburg aan de Geul is a practical base for the race landscape and South Limburg, but weekend availability and finish access are never guaranteed. Book early, then check transport and event notices.

For ridersUse official course and Toerversie information for route, start, parking and rules. Roads may be busy or closed.
For spectatorsCheck the official timetable and map. Moving between viewing points by bike may be feasible only where closures and crowds allow—never assume a 30–40-minute repeat.
Local rhythmLook generally for local pubs/cafés, Limburg beer and Limburgse vlaai; this is not a fabricated venue endorsement.
02 / Cauberg

Marl, memory, climbing

Go underground,
then look up.

The Gemeentegrot Valkenburg sits at the foot of the Cauberg. Its official site confirms guided walking and train tours through marl passages, plus cycling-history material, and reports around 12°C year-round. Bring a layer; verify current tours, times and tickets.

01

Gemeentegrot

Book/check the official attraction directly; special exhibitions and access can be seasonal.

02

Cauberg

A casual climb or walk is possible, but race-day closures and crowd controls take priority.

03

Jan Raas

Confirm any monument or memorial location and access with current local information before detouring.

03 / Watch + wander

Make a day
of the map.

Watch the pros

Use the official race site for current course, timetable, start and finish. Maastricht’s Vrijthof may host atmosphere, team presentation or signing activity in an edition, but treat that as event-dependent.

Rest day culture

Visit Zuid-Limburg covers the Geul Valley, walking, half-timbered villages and limestone landscape.

04 / Checklist

Before you
leave home.

  • Book accommodation and cave/castle experiences early; confirm terms.
  • Check official schedule, course map, traffic plan and closures.
  • Review weather; carry layers for the cave’s reported ~12°C.
  • Plan bike parking, public transport and a meeting point.
  • Respect private roads, residents, marshals and event restrictions.

Checked 3 September 2026. Independent and unofficial; current event information always wins.
